List building 101.

Every business owner needs to

know this.

You have now decided that internet marketing will supplement the income you make from  working your day job. It might be something you start with the hope of making a full time living from or just the fact that you can’t find a job at the moment.

Besides any of the above reasons, you have also been caught up in the hype and pipe dream of starting to believe that you too can become a millionaire by starting an online business. You read all about it and start with some of the first basic steps to online success.

For starters,  you create a blog because that’s what most internet marketers suggest should be your first task. Now you spend your time writing content because again this is what is suggested on the Internet.

What very few mention is that if you are going to run your blog as a business venture there are some very important principles to abide by. One of these is that you need to approach your blog from a business perspective right from the very start.

What is a list?

Task number one for any internet marketer should be list building. A business can not exist without one .

This is where list building comes into the picture.

As an internet marketer you have to develop a customer list. These are people who you have told a little about yourself and your niche or topic and who have shown the same interest.

What’s more, it is a list of people who are prepared to receive email news from you and give you permission to do so.

Why build a list?

Having a viable list will make your internet marketing so much easier. If you can speak on a one to one basis to people who have the same interests as your niche that you have identified then you are ready to do business.

An extensive list is worth FAR more than huge amount of traffic to your page or blog.Your list is what will make you money.

When is the best time to

build a list?

This activity needs to be started the moment you have your topic and relevant keywords identified. Include this marketing activity within your very first bit of content that you have available to go online.

You don’t even need a blog for this. You can set up a Squidoo page, a Hub page or even just submit the very first article to an article directory. Do not take one step online without working a call for opt-ins into your offering.

List building is the fundamental business principle that you need to follow if you want to make money as an internet marketer.
