Longtail keywords in plain English
for the online marketer.
We all know that in order to generate a lot of traffic to our blog or website, it is important to be educated in the latest proven techniques that will ensure search engine optimization.
In order for your site to be indexed and ranked, it will take a combination of SEO techniques, keyword usage and other parameters that will let the search engines know how relevant your website is to the online searcher.
For this article I will discuss one facet of SEO that has to do with keywords…in particular “longtail keywords”.
- a longtail keyword or broad keyword is a keyword phrase consisting of 3 or more words.
Just like a shorttail or narrow keyword, a longtail keyword performs more or less the same but with one major advantage…
Longtail keywords are less competitive.
So including longtail keywords into your sites will provide the following benefits;
- higher conversion rates.
- better page ranks on search engines.
This is how all of this works.
A searcher who uses a longtail keyword like “size 12 blue suede shoes ” is more likely to purchase from the site that has the same longtail keyword.
The searcher, prior to seeing your site, had it already in their mind what they wanted and so the likelihood of the purchase is higher.
On the flip side…
Long tail keywords are less competitive than shorttail keywords. This gives you a fair advantage over sites that have shorttail keywords.
Your site will rank better and will come up naturally. Studies have shown that 30% of visitors to organic search sites are most likely to convert. Not bad.
Below is a chart that illustrates the two concepts.

A start up online business generally can’t afford to compete against the big boys if their keyword is highly competitive.
Using longtail keywords into your site may be a solution to this problem. So do your homework and utilize this technique.
Dedicated to your success!
